Tool Sucks

Tool is a band you can safely ignore if you like music that’s tasty to the creative mind.
A Tool fan wearing a TOOL t-shirt pretty much sums it up.

However, this is the BEST song they ever did. Frankly. It just stood out to me as the pinnacle of their creative mettle. Ironic there’s not much of a song but a narrative.

That said, this song is BETTER than that horrid piece by the Red Hot Chili Peppers called Californication. Notice the similarity.

Games at Twilight (Nothing to do with the current craze laden franchise)

There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call The Twilight Zone.

Prince O+>

Prince is a huge influence. Whoever are his influences I’m grateful to them too. My song Soul on Fire has an extended solo at the end. That solo has a juicy backing groove made with the same enthusiasm as Prince would do. Its more ethnic though. My style.

My music is like a blessing, you don’t have to buy it. Its not a curse because you can only benefit from it.

Influences: Favorite Films

I’d like to think that I have a unique and more importantly, UNPREDICTABLE taste in films.

I do not enjoy watching most of the movies that come out these days. Fundamentally because of:
1. Bad acting
2. Boring stories
3. Poorly designed sets
4. CGI aplenty - CGI doesn’t look real. I prefer props.
5. Lack of art

I like old movies. The last movie that I enjoyed was “The Most Dangerous Game” from 1933. That was great.

I’m a huge fan of Hammer horror. Their films mirror my work ethic and style. Their lighting and set design is excellent. Hollywood could never touch it. It’s a culture thing.

The 70s had a lot of good actors and films. Charles Bronson was great. One of the stars was Bruce Lee, a man who was truly worth his mettle.
Gregory Peck, Oliver Reed, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing etc
Seriously, there are no actors left.

The Oscars don’t really recognize films I like.
A movie that wins an Oscar by an unsaid rule HAS TO BE SAD. A comedy can never win an Oscar.
The basic reason for this is that the world today is full of people who ahem “Bitch and Moan”. These people like to see things that justify their perspective. Getting up, kicking ass, and getting a grip on your life is too much work for them. QED. and therefore, the hell with the Oscars. The trophy looks ridiculous anyways.
I won’t even talk about the Grammys.

Well there were some newer movies I really liked:
Alexander (Oliver stone). everyone panned it. Because they thought it was gay. It’s a very well made film and I believe very well researched as well. The fact that the guy who wrote the screenplay on his novel, gave up the rights for it JUST for a chance to take part in the epic cavalry charge of the battle of Guagemala. THAT kicks ass. Great score by Vangelis. “Titans” is his best work IMO.

Taken (Liam Neeson): I like to research movies on the Internet and read all about them. The story of this one was interesting so I checked it out. It’s an awesome film. I believe everyone should watch it. I couldn’t stop watching it.

Beowulf (Zemeckis): This movie changed my life. Its computer generated. I’m all for this kind of thing. The acting by the animated characters is way better than any of the live actors in Hollywood. Great film, good soundtrack, and an immortal story. My song “shining Armour” is dedicated to its spirit.

Influences: Comedy

Sacha Baron Cohen: I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when I first saw Ali G in Bling Bling. It was bold and off the wall. I like every single thing he’s done. A lot of my friends hated Bruno. i thought it was brilliant. Extremely funny.

Frank Zappa: I had a similar reaction when I listened to the lyrics of ‘Flakes”. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It was insane. The great thing about Frank is that he could be extremely funny even when surrounded by people who were trying to get his goat.

Who’s Line:  Some parts of this show were really funny. Wayne, Ryan, and Colin. I cant remember the name of the Roy Orbison look alike. he was pretty funny too. Its real improvised comedy. This is how good TV was before MTV wrecked it with their version of “reality tv”.

Eddie Murphy: I dig his impersonations more than his jokes. They are insanely good.

George Ouzonian: Best Page in the Universe. Nuff said.

Influences: Some of My Musical Favorites

Jimi Hendrix: The first time I saw Jimi Hendrxi was a music video of Voodoo Child in 1993 or 94. I saw this black man with a moustache in strange ethnic gypsy kind of wear. He was surrounded by these Cats-esque sensual dancers. I never found this video again. He was totally absorbed in his playing. That was the first thing that struck me about him. I had already seen and heard Marty, Steve, Joe, Kirk etc. But after I saw Jimi, my heart said he was the greatest. When he plays the outro with his teeth, its not just showmanship. Its being more than just a guitarist with extra ordinary orthodontic protrusions. It’s more than just forced intimacy. Its something.

Davey Graham: I think we should all be grateful to Mr Graham. Without him World music would probably not be the way it is. Led Zeppelin owe him most of their royalties and critical acclaim.
Listening to Davey Graham was a mind-poppingexperience for me. He’s a real guitar player. I personally think he and Frank Zappa are the two most important guitarists of the 20th century. I adore his organic approach to guitar playing and his amazing inventiveness. He seamlessly blends Jazz Blues Indian Mid eastern music like nobody’s business.

Frank Zappa: I love Frank Zappa. I would pay to listen to him talk. I love his straightforwardness, honesty, and musical integrity. If theres any such thing. His brilliance has already been proven. What I truly love about him is his sense of humour. I think he’s the funniest guy I’ve ever seen. He’s better than professional comedians. Steve Vai owes him everything. I’m very very sad I cant meet Frank.

Ritchie Blackmore: The world thinks he’s an asshole. Some think he’s a genius. I think he’s the creator of modern day metal. His guitar solos are intelligent, innovative, and daring. He’s another guy who I love listening to talk. he has a great sense of humour and is very up front.

Slade: Probably my favourite band. The first time I heard Noddy Holder sing, I thought ‘That’s the most powerful voice I’ve ever heard.” Till a few months back, I had lost all interest in gigging. Listening to one particular Slade song changed that. Which song that is you’ll hear at my next gig. KISS owe them everything.

Queen: I never cared for Queen or Freddie Mercury back in the day when he was still alive. I credit my friend for making me listen to them. I think Queen’s early albums are pure musical fun. The 70s were great and Queen was probably the greatest thing. Freddie’s was just gifted by God. Both his teeth and the resulting voice were sent straight from above. The mark of a great artist I think is their ability to make YOU want to do what they do. Listening to Freddie sing sure makes me wanna sing.

Eazy E: A lot of guys from the world of metal and rock love to hate hip hop. These guys are stupid. Hip Hop is innovative, fun, and powerful. It’s a musical revolution. Of course it’s being exploited to death now but then what hasn’t? If it can be exploited, baby it will.
I used to think Dr Dre, Eminem and the like were great. That’s of course until I heard Eazy E.

NWOBHM: I used to love Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Megadeth until I heard their influences. After I listened to Angel Witch, Diamond Head, Saxon etc, I can’t bear to listen to the 3 M’s anymore. I just cant now. It’s unbearable. I love the influence of Hammer Horror in the songs of Angel Witch. I can identify with their fascination.

Vangelis: I like what he does. There’s a video of him showing off the Yamaha CS80. I think that video sums up his scene completely. I like everything he’s done.

Little Richard: With a voice like a Canon, Little Richard is an instant favourite. My first brush with his genius was during the movie “The Predator”. I remember watching it as a 10 year old and I loved the song playing during the helicopter flight over the South American jungle. I would find out later who it was by. “Having me some fun tonight”
